I live in a rural area of FL about 1 hr from the Trail & Ski in Tallahassee. I needed quality sunglasses, and a friend recommended Trail & Ski, so I made the trip. Because I wear prescription glasses, I asked a man working in the store about what sunglasses they had that I could get with rx lenses and he said only Smith Optics brand could accommodate rx. So I found a pair of Smith sunglasses at 50% off and purchased them. When I got back home I contacted Smith Optics to see how I would go about getting the rx lenses put in, and they said that unfortunately, b/c I had purchased glasses that already had lenses, if I had an optician put rx lenses in the Smith lifetime warranty would be voided. Instead, they said, I had to order the frames direct from Smith. So I had to make another trip back to the store to return the glasses. When I arrived, a man who I assume to be the manager of the store brusquely stated that I couldn't return the item b/c it was on sale. Even after I explained the situation he was very argumentative and unprofessional, although he did finally agree to accept the return. The glasses were returned completely unused and the appropriate thing to do would be to accept the return rather than argue with a customer (I won't be back). Ultimately I spent 4 hrs traveling to/from the store and I'm still w/out glasses. I leave 2 stars rather than 1 b/c I can't comment on the quality/variety of products available at the store. Also, the woman working at the register was friendly on both occasions when I interacted with her, so not all of the customer service was bad.

I went to Trail and Ski looking for a pair of Keen sandals. Based on my experiences in other stores, I thought I just needed a size I hadn't been able to find elsewhere. Billy gave me the size I asked for and helped me adjust the sandal properly. When I explained that the shoe still didn't feel right even though I thought I had the right size, he was honest and direct about his experience with that particular style and the issues with its fit. He then helped me find a better-fitting sandal and was patient with my questions. His knowledge of the products (and the pros and cons of each) was, hands-down, the most helpful thing I could have asked for. This was one of the best customer service experience I've ever had. Thank you so much!!
This store is perfect for my backpacking needs. I can always count on them to be stocked with Mountain House trail food and have all the necessary items I need for my backpacking trips. The staff are all knowledgeable regarding the items in the store and have helped me understand the pros and cons in actual field use for different items. I had a 30 minute detailed conversation about different stoves the first time I went.
