Russ, the owner, and a helper came out because we've had hole in our apartment roof for over a year. They never bothered to come inside to access the attic space to check for water damage or mold; when I went outside to ask them (after they patched the hole) about this, they told me that mold "never" occurs in attics because the temperatures are "too high" for mold to grow. (Russ said that his license requires so many hours of mold training every year, which isn't even true--roofing licenses in Florida don't require mold CEUs.) I insisted that mold is a possibility with wet wood and humidity; he insisted that it's not. (The helper was so uninterested in the conversation that he climbed in the truck to ignore me.) And yet, three days later, I discovered black mold in the ceiling of our laundry room, directly beneath the hole. Our apartment maintenance guy came out and cut out a hole around the mold--indeed, beneath the hole, was mold damage to the drywall and wood. This was pure laziness on the part of this company: if there's mold in the ceiling *beneath* the hole, then reason would suggest that there's certainly mold in the wood, drywall, and possibly insulation above--and Russ and his helper would have seen this if they'd bothered to do a full inspection before beginning the work.
