I have called twice trying to set up a new patient appointment and keep being put on hold as soon as the receptionist Jill or Joanne (not sure of her name because she says it so fast and slams me on hold). I have wait 10 minutes on hold both times. I guess this office does not any new patients. Very Disappointed!
I've never had a doctor's office get me to cry before, but the assistant who finally called me back was horrible. In my first visit, Dr. Spooner spent a grand total of 5 minutes with me. He told me he'd get me a walking boot until a custom brace could be created to fix my problem. He talked about my navicular bone so I thought that was my diagnosis, but I later found out from the guy who took a mold of my foot that the "doctor" didn't even spend enough time with me to bother with telling me my own diagnosis. After wearing this boot for three days and getting new boot-related aches in both shins and knees, I finally swallow my pride and call to ask for his signature on a form for a TEMPORARY disabled parking permit. His assistant called me back after a day and a half and talked down to me like I was an addict begging for Vicodin. It is the state of Florida's decision to give or not give me the permit! I only asked that HE verify that I'm not lying about needing the walking boot. I will never understand why I had to justify myself to HER just to then listen to her talk down at me. If my insurance gives me another choice in podiatrist, I will never go back.
I consult with a physician to be healed. In my area of expertise, having to wait weeks or a month to schedule an hour consultation is de rigueur. If the professional is expert in his area of practice then clients are willing to wait. Doctor Merritt performed three major surgeries on my foot from early 2015 to mid 2016. Did I wait an hour or two sometimes? Yep. Was the wait well spent time? Yep. Bring your laptop and work while waiting. In my case the results were near miraculous. I find the staff to be professional and kind. Do they give me answers I do not prefer? Yep. Is the truth rude? No. Do they perform their jobs under enormous pressure from patients who are self-centered? Yep. I have seen total jerks approach the kind and professional staff behind the office windows. Wait. Be patient. Be nice. Doctor Merritt is one in a million.
I now realize the only reason this office is always booked to the max is because they are the only game in town, pretty much. I will not be going here no matter how good or simply in demand the doctors are because the office receptionist is extremely rude. You cannot even book an appointment without getting attitude. If they put up with unreasonable behavior from some, that doesn't give them license to treat everyone as though they were going to become unreasonable. This place is a nightmare. Why don't these doctors schedule less patients so clients don't wait hours on end to be seen. Oh right, they don't have to.
My son and I both had out patient surgeries here and did not experience any issues. We both saw Dr. Spooner. I even recommended my step dad to come here and he'll be going in for an appt in the next few weeks. They're a great team!
